Well even Interior Designers can work from home with the marvellous help of Zoom. Today I have finished putting together a scheme for the refurbishment of a clients lounge. Zoom enabled me to ‘visit’ the room in both a daytime and evening aspect. Although there isn’t the immediate feel you get from entering a room in person, with plenty of discussion with the client and a fixed picture in my mind, a plan soon started to evolve. The finished result (which I am pleased to say has been resoundingly approved by my client) involves using fabrics for upholstery, curtains and pelmets from the Villa Nova Artesia collection, Harlequin wallpaper and a Westex velvet pile carpet.
The room is very square and although it has a large bay window, only gets the morning sun. The present fixtures are traditional and are what gives the room its character so although the aim was for something modern, the 100 year old mahogany fireplace, picture rail and curved edge ceiling had to be taken into consideration.
Overall the look will be one of a fresh bright background using the randomly striped wallpaper whose dominate colour matches perfectly the background of the patterned curtain fabric. The padded pelmet which will dress the curtains will then be made in a darker textured plain, again matching a colour in the curtains. This then follows on to the sofas which will be a modern cut velvet pile fabric in a stronger dark colour. All of which compliment the fireplace.
The idea with this type of room is to achieve an overall appearance of peace and calm with no one item standing out from the other.
I am so pleased the client loved the result and am now anxious to get the work in progress – but un fortunately that will have to wait a little while!
