After a very long winter there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully by mid April life will begin to resemble some normality. As there have been no exhibitions to visit or company reps. knocking on the door it has been quite hard to determine the current trends and view the latest innovative ideas (I know we can see these online but there is nothing like seeing and feeling the real thing), but saying that there are some great products around I cant wait to use – polished plaster finish being just one. The gradual step away from the elephant greys to the more mushroom based colours has given us a chance to bring back into design a wider range of accent colours such as orange/rust, yellows and even turquoise. One of my clients has recently been brave enough to allow me to have their sofas recovered in deep turquoise fabric which has worked beautifully giving a real nineteen twenties twist to the modern harlequin wallpaper and westex ofwhite carpet. They have then taken the step of taking down the wall between the dining room and kitchen and opening up the whole area with very little disruption to the existing fittings. The work top and cupboards that were exposed are now in the process of having the granite carried down to the floor on the back and end panel. The whole project has added light to the area and a fantastic feeling of space.
Large expanses of windows to extensions across the back of the home still continue to be a big challenge when it comes to dressing them. Bi-fold doors that open fully to great an extended room into the garden are a great asset but many people are finding that they also want some privacy and cosiness during long winter evenings. There is never a straight forward answer to this but giving a lot of thought a soloution is always available.
